Who: The classes are open to Music Students ages 13 to adult.
Where: The Fabulous School of Music Class room located at 8 Bow St. in Beverly, MA.
What: In a songwriting slump or have you always wanted to write your own songs, but didn’t know where to start? In this class, students will learn about all of the elements that make up a song, including lyric writing, melody writing, chord progressions, modulating, song forms and more. This workshop, will use hands-on writing exercises to explore ideas, concepts and techniques that will help you jump-start your creativity and help make your songwriting consistently compelling, regardless of style or genre. Some basic understanding of music theory is required. The goal of the class is to have each student write their own song using the concepts taught in the class by the last session.
The Instructors:
Jenifer Tobaisz is a singer/songwriter/recording artist and has been on the Fabulous School of Music faculty teaching voice, piano and songwriting since 2004. She is an alumni of Wagner College in NYC and attended Berklee College of Music and Berklee in Los Angeles. In 2003, she was nominated for “International Best Poet of 2003” by the Library of Congress.
Phil Dubnick has been a fulltime Guitar, Voice and Music Theory teacher here at the Fabulous School of Music for 7 years as well as an accomplished Songwriter, Guitarist, Vocalist, Producer and Recording Engineer. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, a recipient of the Alan and Marilyn Bergman ASCAP Award (Berklee College Of Music) and a judge of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. His music has been used in various TV shows, in an XBox game and he has written for “Performing Songwriter” Magazine.
Duration and Cost: 8 Weeks (Eight-1 hour classes). $200 to be paid in full at the first session. Checks are to be made out to the instructor.
